But after reading The Polar Express, aboard which the passengers drank theirs "as thick and rich as melted chocolate bars," I knew no powdered mix would suffice ever again.
Polar Express Hot Chocolate

In a small but heavy saucepan set over medium-low heat, combine three to four ounces of your favorite chocolate chips, disks, or chopped bar with two cups of milk and a pinch of salt. Stir, staring and salivating, until the chocolate has melted and the mixture is thoroughly warmed.
Gild the little one's lily with marshmallows, whipped cream, or a peppermint swizzle stick. Gild yours with a magnanimous pour of amaretto, or any winter fortifier you fancy.
